The industrial electricity bill in Mexico has two components many managers don't distinguish: consumption in kWh and the demand charge. The demand charge can represent up to 40% of the total bill and is generated by the highest consumption peak recorded in the month — a simultaneous motor startup, a compressor that turns on at the worst moment, or simply machinery operating outside productive hours. Without a zone measurement system, it's impossible to identify which machine or process generates that peak or when it occurs.
